here's a feeble effort to shoot last night's Moon in preparation for Saturday evening's Super Moon.

I made this one with that 40$ Pentax K1000 I bought earlier this week and a roll of Fuji 200 that was in the bag with all the Velvia 50.

This shot through a 80mm refractor and a 2x tele converter.
Just a 500th second exposure, so no tracking needed.
Sorry about the ratty scan, it has a lot of dust inside the box, so it look like the moon has a bit of lint on it.

There are some who are predicting quakes for California because of this large moon. I wonder if they're going to be right.

The short answer is no.

There are too many occurrences of quakes when the Moon is small.
Besides, California seems to be an easy target for this type of "rumor" especially among media types and there are others that say California is overdue, but Yellowstone is overdue for a big spew too.....

Now back to our photo-op tonight.

Is anyone planning to go out and give it a try?

It is clear here today, so I might have a look but I don't have any lens longer than a 50mm so it won't be much of a shot!

There is a big, nasty old storm rolling into California today so I dont think I'll be able to see it. I live in a place where the sun shines 90% of the time but seem to miss out on the special deals a lot due to cloud cover. What timing!

When the Daily Mail printed that story about "lunar tugging" I laughed about it for ages

I located in the stash of long-unused photo gear my Promaster 300mm lens that I have attached--t mount adaptor--to my Leica loaded with Tri-X. I'm pretty sure that this isn't the gear NASA will be using tonight but I stand ready to shoot the moon (so to speak). It's a nice, clear night and not too cold here in southern New England. I'm just waiting for the moon to rise a bit higher in the sky. Hopefully, I'll be able to post somethimg here tomorrow evening.

We had 'good moon' but with my 50mm it just wasn't worth the bother. It'll be interesting to see if anyone had more success.

I made an attempt but was utterly foiled by deep mist. kind of cool but the moon just looked like a big, hazy lamp

so only digi snaps for me too..

Driving back to South London from an adventurous day in North London (I know, we really get about sometimes don't we!) the moon looked absolutely amazing as we crossed the Thames over Tower Bridge. No time for photos, but it was quite a sight.

Well... was too low on the horizon at first...
Next time I saw it was about 2am... didn't feel like fetching my 500mm, lens doubler, tripod, coat, opening the window to the frigid night... My pillow was so comfortable

Ed-that sounds like an absolutely incredible sight! Would of loved to have seen it like that, but seeing it rise over the mountains on my part of the planet was pretty cool!

I tried photographing it last night it by hand holding my Holga up to the eyepiece of my telescope.
Won't know the results until sometime tomorrow when I can get to devving the roll of color I wasted on it.

Visually the Moon was a stunner!

I didnt see the moon until about 5 am when the clouds cleared a bit and the moon came in through the window and woke me up. It was beautiful! No pix though. I fell right back to sleep. $:-\$

Looked out at about 10 pm to see the moon through the forest of trees...beautiful sight but just as Francois said...my pillow was way too comfortable to leave...

It was going to be cloudy and rainy in LA so we took a day trip out into the desert to watch the sunset and explore the Salton Sea. It was very beautiful, i didnt get any good pictures since i lack a telephoto lens for my film kit.

Got a few nice digi snaps, but nothing worth a second look.

I waited in the bar at Angelo's (I and Mr. Jameson, that is) until the moon rose high enough then I made the following pictures with my Leica and, in one, the aforementioned 300mm Promaster special, in the others, a 50mm Summicron--all on Tri-X developed in Xtol. I have no way on measuring so I take the scientists' word for the fact that the moon was 14% larger than normal.

Nice job! Top one is a stunner but I love the last one..

Actually, all was quiet on the Providence and Worcester RR at the time. Anyway, I'm still faster than a locomotive.
