last weekend in August
« on: August 30, 2008, 11:48:36 PM »
This weekend, as with every weekend this summer, I was working on our house extension. So no processing, no printing, no scanning  :-[

So, if you'll excuse me, I'll post one I took on a weekend many moons ago..

PS Ed, I love your second one one the beach - the colours and grain are fantastic!

I climbed a ladder with my 195 and some expired Type-667, as my SE is in the shop...

i drove down to gila bend, about 40 miles southwest of phoenix (plus the 30 miles it takes to get out of phoenix)... hit a giant monsoon storm, good times were had.

last shot is a flash flood in a wash across one of the roads.

Cool!
where's the Space Age Lodge?
I must visit.  Is it open?
Been a couple years since I've been to Phoenix.

yeah i was wondering about the ladder... do you just carry it around so you can shoot 12 inches off the ground? it works, though. dedication. i never even remember to bring my tripod. it must be really early because for some reason my post seems rife with innuendo.

my Holga and I have a love hate relationship .... I was quite pleased with this one, although I prefer my "proper" version from a few weeks ago.

Good work, Leon. Are we to expect a Holga Grabs from you soon? Lettuce hope. I'm afraid my work will be few on account of my work sedule and will only have time to shoot on the weekends now, sadly.

Skorj, I absolutely LOVE your misty street photo...simply stunning and a good example of just how much you add to a scene with your 195+process+eye combo. Truly wonderful stuff. Every time I see one of yours that is this good it honestly makes me wish there was a book of them.

However, I have to say Sean's "12 inches off the ground" comment did have me rolling in the aisles. I'm assuming you found the 'ladder' nearby. I put ladder in quotes because I'm not sure we can - in all honesty - refer to it as such. In the UK we might say 'steps' in preference, as 'ladder' usually refers to something that extends above  knee height  ;D ;D ;D. Also, I have to wonder about its colour too. Here in Blightly steps are generally white or silver in colour, but you (style guru that you are) seem to have located a vary classy lilac set ("For the shorter man who's very secure with his sexuality, Steps Incorporated brings you Lil' Lilac; because some things in life are just out of reach"). Not designed by Phillippe Starck are they by any chance?

Forgive the ribbing...the picture's amazing so it was time well spent 12 inches off the ground. Also, I had some less than good news today and this has been a very diverting episode. Thanks.

...but what is the story with the ladder?

it is a lovely lilac color, isn't it? or maybe an antique blue. really makes the second shot...bring out his eyes.

and a couple more 'on topic' shots from last weekend. it's almost another!

Here are several taken this past weekend in my neighborhood. The rectangular ones are from my dad's 1970 Yashica Electro X SLR; the square is from a Hasselblad 500C (a gift from one of my customers!).

...but what is the story with the ladder?

I carry it with me on expeditions for just this purpose. Color is perfectly normal at this end, as I do not think I could buy a raw aluminum set even if I wanted to. I bought it for my motorshow magazine work, but carry it for my social stuff too, as sometimes you need it, sometimes not...

actually a pretty darn good idea. i'm always balancing on rocks and such trying to get better angles. i already get enough funny looks with my cameras, what would a ladder hurt.

With all kidding aside....it is a great idea, Mark, and always cool to have the upper hand with your ladder. I swear I cannot get around it! Um....I find myself dragging along an aluminum one from time to time in the field. Doh!

Okay. Good work from all. We may need to start a new thread. Thank goodness it is Friday!
