We have finally caved in and included a sales board on the site. You can access it by going to the "which forum" page, then clicking on the Sales forum.
If you cant see it there, that is by design ... we have set it as only accessible to forum members who have made more than 50 posts to try and keep it reserved for regulars only.
If you can see it, you can use it - simple as that. The usual rules about not including for sale etc posts on this forum remain.
Cheers

If that sounds a bit harsh, believe me, it's not meant to. It's just the only way - using our current forum software - that we can easily implement a Sales board for regular members to use, but which prevents chancers from joining the forum just to try and sell their gear.

Should giveaways be posted there as well, or still here on this forum?
-
I think the 50 post rule is sensible one.
JON..
-
I'll have to avoid that board, too tempting.. ;D
-
Good thing, I won't have to use the "Mark all read" button quite as often :)

Good point, Erin. I think giveaways can be posted here and/or the Sales board.
-
It makes sense to put giveaways in the sales area, if you indeed want a filmwaster to have the item instead of any old sally, bruce or charlie on the arpanet.
-
Sounds good, definitely like the 50 post rule.

maybe it should be a "sales, trades and promotion" board to give people a place to promote personal books or shows, whatever, as well as sell or trade stuff. or not.

excellent point Sean. We'll get onto it.

Thanks Ed!

Sean, great idea. I've changed the title and description of the board to incorporate your suggestions.

Really great idea! Thanks Ed!

One suggestion:
When something's sold or traded (swaps presumably allowed as well?) the original poster should mark the the thread as closed / item sold. Easiest to do by amending the title on the post?

for sale board is the devil :P
-
what the heck does trad mean? as in trad photo gear...traditional?
-
The the word 'trad' when used by me on this forum, is an abbreviation of 'traditional' and a clumsy way of saying, "not digital, but more than just film". The website is called FILMwasters as you know, but I'm very aware that there is a whole lot more than film going on here and out of respect for people like Carl, Heather, Andrea etc. I try to be as inclusive as possible. Also, we've tried to stay away from writing things like 'not digital' or 'no digital' because we feel that could be taken as confrontational, but it does leave us searching for a better alternative. Hoist by our own petard.
Anyway, I'm going to carry on using 'trad' as a short hand until I think of something better.

Aw, and I have only 31 posts. No wait, now it's 32!
;D
-
....well, that's certainly one way of doing it ;)

Just noticed that you have started closing some posts on the sales promotion etc board.
Would it be worth deleting closed threads after a period to save cluttering up the board.
Having never administered a forum don't know if its worth the time or not.
