caffenol still going strong at 4 days
« on: December 01, 2012, 02:28:04 AM »
In an earlier post I asked about the shelf life of caffenol and the initial consensus was that it had to be used immediately or at least within a few hours...

This pinhole test shot was dev'd in 4 day old caffenol..I'm still developing for 8 minutes and keeping the mixture in a bottle with the air squeezed out.
As you can see the java still has lots of jive.
The mixture smells pretty bad now and looks gross but it still works!
My next test will be when the mixture is 8 days old...

Just an FYI on the brands and costs of  the ingredients I am using for the test.

Nescafe Clasico instant coffee                                           $2.09    50g   (on sale)   jar
C-1000 Vitamin Shoppe  powder (no other ingredients)   $9.99    227g        jar
Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda                             $1.89     1.56 kg   box

all mixed with tap water  (well water, not city water that is chlorinated)

each ingredient is measured with a standard teaspoon set (leveled off with a straight edge ).

3.5 teaspoons washing soda in 6 oz. water

5 teaspoons instant coffee in 6 oz water
1/2 teaspoon Vitamin C powder added to above coffee mixture

combine both mixtures and mix well then let sit for a few minutes
