Craig Stecyk+The Haze+Hurley+van=greatness
« on: August 03, 2016, 07:13:30 PM »
I was looking on the web and I found this... and I want it  ;D
It actually started with Hurley, the surf gear company that decided to do a project with graffiti artist The Haze.
Since Craig Stecyk works for them, they put him on the team so unsurprisingly, great stuff happened.

And this is the result.

The back... complete with spray cans, rollers and masks for those sleepless nights

And the interior... complete with focomat enlarger to boot!

Now, if you ever had any doubts, what do you think? :)

hah! looks fun :D I wouldn't mind trying to work in that darkroom! though I guess you'd have to hunch a bit in there.
I wonder how they decided to make it light tight to the front

I like the idea of the darkroom but that colour scheme......hideous. It gives me a headache just looking at it.

The gradient background is typical LA style in a sense. Those colors were used by the Colby Poster Company. This company produced most event posters in the city and their signs could be found all over the place.

There's a good documentary on YouTube about them.

Never heard of them.  Does that make me too old or too young?

A darkroom van seems a bit of a non sequitur for a surf clothing company. I actually tilted my head and said "huh??" I am obviously missing some critical piece of information that relates to photography. I agree that the color scheme is very typical So. Cal. graffiti. Not my style, but I can appreciate the creativity.

Well, it is not so strange when you begin to know Stecyk.
The guy photographed the whole surfing and skateboarding subcultures back in the 1970's and 1980's... and he has a deep love for German made cameras and photographic gear. He still shoots 16mm...
Once you see this small bio on him, you understand

Yes, I've been accused of a lot of things in my life, but never of being Californian.

Love the idea of a rolling darkroom. I was walking about with camera a few years back when I stumbled onto a public auction. There were some vehicles going up on the block and one of them was an ambulance. I peered inside it and that got the mobile photo studio/darkroom idea into my head. Another of my photo-related fantasies.

I can just imagine myself going to nice places, shooting, developing and moving on to the next.
Maybe going to Gaspesia, or the Great lakes. Maybe taking the ferry to Newfoundland. Maybe hopping on the Lincoln highway to go west...
