New Fujipet Due?
« on: December 21, 2010, 07:48:06 AM »

After many internet pages, a million forum discussions, numerous books, lobbying direct to FujiFilm in Tokyo, detailed discussions with alternate toy camera manufacturers, it seems some traction has been gained on the production of the Fujipet New.

Not sure of the when or who, but seeing as we love rumors...

If this is new and goes on sale, let's guess the price....

I'll start the game at 99 gbp

Anyone?

depends who is selling it .... the LS crew = £250; non-hipster sellers = I'd agree with the £99.

Skj - was the lobbying by you?

A nice reliable lo-fi camera would definitely be a great thing.
If they also have funky leatherette colors, that would be awesome.

I'd definitely put a hundred bucks on something like that...

What would be extra cool is if it had variable shutter speeds and waterstop apertures :)
But that's probably asking too much.

like the lomo diana remake, as sexy as it may look hanging around the neck, the lens quality will never compare to the softness of 30 year old plastic IMHO on the original....

I'm with Gregor on the sexiness of 30 year old plastic, but heck, I'd shell out money for a Fuji pet since it's been on my list of coveted toys for years.

I'd put my money on LSI getting the rights to make it, it is right up their street.  Even they couldn't ask £250 could they?

It's been on my list for ages as well but the price always put me off.

Now, if I have to put serious money in a new one I might as well get the original instead ...

there's a unusually high number on ebay at moment.  $299.00 USD buy it now and one with an open auction. a reissue will likely drive prices down as happened to the Diana 151.

It was indeed. Riding past their HQ regularly it occurred to me such might be appreciated. So I went back and forth a few times with their film camera research department, they were very nice, and a little bemused I think when I showed them prices and the international interest in one of their 50 year old cameras. This was a few years ago though! Skj.

I will hopefully travel to Tokyo right after the new year. Is there any place where I could find one of these?

The new one, if it makes it on sale (unlike the ToLne), would likely be available from Camera Cabaret, Village Vanguard, and the usual hipster outlets. The new one was to be called the Fujipet S (geddit?), but likely will be called something like the Fujipet +. If it does make it into production though, I will happily lay claim for the idea for two new toy cameras - the Holga 135 and the Fujipet New.

The old one, if you're very, very, lucky, can be found in secondhand camera shops in the quieter parts of town. Though, I am told Lemon-sha had one once. The chances of finding one on a short trip though approach zero. I bought mine from a tiny shop in Nagano, but you're better off buying on eBay. Though check the Resources section here as some local on-line shops have occasional stock too.

More (of course), on the original here: Fujipet Review. Skj.

It's sounding like you are more in theknow than you let on brother Skorj. :)

it is quite an impressive acheivement.

Do you know much about construction materials? Is it going to be a like-for-like reproduction or will there be some nice extra touches? What I liked about the f-pet was the solidity compared to other toycameras. I thought the lens needed to be more holga-like for my tastes. Aesthetically, they are a design classic though.

Skorj always knows more than he let's on. It's part of the legend that is Skorj  ;D

I forgot that the Holga 135 was your fault, Skorj. If I remember correctly it's something you raised with Mr Lee when you interviewed him in HK years ago for some dogy old magazine  ;)

So look, now that your credentials have been established in this area how about lobbying Fuji to do two more things:

  • Halt the withdrawal of the FP100B in all sizes and speeds
  • Start production of a peel apart pos/neg instant film

I'll give you 6 months.
 :D :D

Thank you Mr. Skorj. I will ask my friends to keep an eye on Japanese auctions too - the ones in ebay are "new LC-A priced". But I will probably pick up a new one when it's released, it's too cute.

(By the way, I have seen TolNe's on ebay - they look like a more fun 35mm Holga)

You know, the I know the guy type of deal   ;)

And I actually wanted to spend less on cameras this year :/ Well, if that camera comes out I probably will have to buy it.

Well... spending less on gear always seems like a bit of wishful thinking when staring at nice shiny glass :)
