Weekend 23-26 August
« on: August 23, 2012, 08:49:40 PM »
Well, it seems nobody is starting the weekend thread… : )  8)

I went to Ethiopia for a long weekend  ;D; I stayed three days in Lalibela, that incredible place in the mountains with the stone-carved churches. Before leaving the usual hesitation about which equipment to carry with me. I really wanted to bring the Pentax 67 because it´s a lovely camera and I have a wide lens perfect for the narrow spaces inside the churches; finally I decided to bring with me the Rolleiflex, to be honest my shooting style is Portraits so at the end it makes no sense to me to bring a wide lens, and the Pentax weights more than twice the Rollei. So finally the Rollei and the Polaroid 195, of course!

I arrived to the place and as expected my first shots are shitty, my hands tremble and I shoot to anything that moves, after my first roll and a few wasted polaroid I go back to my usual shooting rhythm, which is around 1 roll of medium format and 1 polaroid pack per day. But then my Rollei its not working as expected, the winding mechanism feels stiff and the shutter makes a pffff sound instead of the usual click  :'(, luckily after few shots it goes back to normality (it seems I have to have the camera serviced..)

So here are the B&W Polaroids which I like the best

Better and better, Carlos.

You know what it's like carrying several cameras and one of them happens to be loaded with Neopan 1600, and you take a few shots and then put it away, and pick it up again and put it away again, till finally you finish the roll eight months later.  You know that, right?

Shots from the Walz Envoy from January 2012 at Third Floor Gallery in Cardiff, and then two shots from last weekend's opening ...

Lovely start both. Love Black and White and love people pictures. There always seems much more you can read into them.
From me a still life. The window was destined for home improvement so I wanted to have a reminder of it.
Have a good one all.

Lovely shots Carlos.  Off to Ireland this week end. Here's another old one.  A field in Oxfordshire - taken years ago when I was out mountain biking.  This was actually one of the first rolls I processed myself and one of the first prints I ever developed in a dark room.  Nikon F3

Carlos, Sandeha, wonderful images!

I'll be off to Munich or rather to the country and villages around for the weekend, but that will maybe a matter for another weekend thread in a couple of weeks.
For now, one from a month ago, from one of my favorite areas:

Website of sorts, as well as ipernity thing.

Thanks all for the nice comments. Shooting Polaroid is so unique, The Polaroid 195 is quite a thing to unfold in front of people, but when you produce a polaroid, and specially when you give them up to to your subject, or just shoot somebody who asked for it, that is Magic! In the airports the cameras bring quite attention when passing through the x-ray machines controls, in one of them I was asked to open the black box (the Polaroid 195), and when I did it and unfold the camera the Policeman would ask me: what is this?  :'(

I've been away too long and such fabulous images.

Carlos - those Ethiopian portraits are treasures!!
Charles Binns - what a "striking" sky!!  And I love how it plays against the lines of the road treads.
Tin Tin - those windows make me happy (esp the non-conformist) but the stop sign makes me swoon!  Love the color of night on objects!
Miles - your new england scene, simply serene!
Kenny - oh the colors in both of your uploads!  The laundrette is particularly vintage-y just like the decor!
Phil - exquisite in color, depth and content from corner to corner WOW!!!
Chalky - those italian ID-UVs are stunners, particularly the pool image!

My photo is from a Chaika 3 (Red!!!) and as it is a half frame camera, it is a pain to scan the pics (72 in one roll...). So I let the scanner take two pics at the time, and thought these two really got on nicely together. The ISO seems to be stuck at 100 and that is fine by me. Have used Kodak 100 T-Max

Thanks for the kind words!

I'm afraid not Blaxton, this frame of Kodachrome is from the last batch about 2 years ago. I don't think there's any where to process Kodachrome anymore.  :(

Wonderful, wonderful pics everyone. I never get tired of those weekend threads.
Favs so far:

Calbisus second one, lovely light/shadow in that photo
Sandeha, last one. Beautiful
Tintin, your first is great.
Kenny, that laundrette shot reminds me of my early twenties when I lived in London for a year. Sweet memories.
Blaxton, Ivy in the studio is such a wonderful photo. Love the relaxed doggie

Some Holga 120TLR snaps from late May (we revisited the Falls of Lorna Hotel near Oban - 25 years after staying there on our honeymoon). These are of Connel Bridge (Ilford FP4+ and Ilfotec LC29). my dad died a few weeks later and I haven't been very active since - but recently started on the developing backlog and found inspiration to start shooting again :)

Kenny - such an atmospheric shot, how is it that photographers are always attracted to laundries? And yes, lovely color..

Chalky - I am sure that the wedding couple will be more than happy with your Polaroids  :D and yes, the pool one it´s refreshing  ;)

Windy - Beautiful, specially like the third and fourth - Terribly sorry about your loss, glad you managed to handle the camera again  :)

A fabulous series of shots, as usual. It's difficult to choose favourites but Calbisu's portraits as openers are going to be a tall order to beat. Love Kenny's washing machines as well.....

Mine are a few more from Marrakesh, showing the tranquillity of the Riad in which we stayed, the quiet local streets and the madness encountered as you get close to Jemme El Fna.

Two colour Polaroids  :)  The one with the soldier I was walking through the ¨forest¨and saw him and the ladies, I though the looked great as they were but kept walking, after some hesitation I went back and convinced them to reposition themselves as they were when I found them, somehow it reminds to some african photographer´s work (what a wonder, being shot in Africa  ::) ), I do not know who thought  ;D

There is no editing in the photos but they look quite differently, the 108 film when underexposed under the sun produces beautiful deep colours.

Kenny, your Titan images are always inspiring. That one is no different!

Volker, I fell homesick (for Heidelberg) when I see that picture. Maybe next year, I'll move back ...

I finally found the time to scan one of the more than 20 rolls I still have to scan. Unfortunately, I think I still have to work on my exposure times when I use the Holga WPC. Maybe I should actually use a light meter next time I go out a dusk.
