Title: Nevada High Desert
Post by: Bryan on May 14, 2014, 04:32:21 AM
I'm back working in the middle of The Nevada high desert.  I spent two weeks there in early May and will be returning in June.  On my days off I like to take my camera and explore the mountains, valleys and ghost towns.  This first trip I took a Rolleiflex Automat and shot a few rolls of Kodak Ektar 100.

When I took this photo a storm was moving into the area.  You can tell by the cloud formations and the wind stirring up the sand on the dry lake bed behind the water tower.  The next few days we got several inches of snow in Eureka.

Great shots, Bryan. Nevada seems like an endless source of great photographic motifs.

Fantastic work, Bryan.  Love the big skies and wispy clouds.

Lara and I enjoyed our trip across the US of A via R66 so much, we're hoping to go back and repeat the dose soon - just via another, less-travelled, route.

Nice set. The colors seems a little more subdued than I expect from Ektar, but it works given the subject. I really need to get back out West soon.

Thanks for the great comments!  I think the colors were a little subdued for a few reasons.  The sun hiding behind thin clouds and just the nature of the desert colors.

These photos were all taken near highway 50 known as the loneliest highway in the US.  You can drive a long time without seeing another car.  If you do an internet search you can find guides to the ghost towns of Nevada.  There are around 700 including abandoned mines.

love this set, as mentioned i too love the big skies.
Nice consistent colours through the set.

700 ghost towns/mines - they would be great locations for photography ?

Some of them are, you have do do a little research first.  Some of them are so decomposed there's not much left.

After a few weeks in Alaska it's back to Nevada for a while so prepare for more desert photos.  I have 3 cameras with me, a Canon AE-1,  Kodak Tourist II 620 and a Polaroid 101 Land Camera.  These were shot with the Canon AE-1 using Kodak Ektar 100.  This first one was shot with an FD 28mm f2.8 lens.

These next two were both shot with an FD 100-200mm f5.6 Zoom lens.
