late start weekend thyread -17/18/19 May
« on: May 18, 2024, 05:40:10 PM »
Surprisingly nobody has started the weekend thread yet so I'll jump in.
I tried a Cyanotype but my newish Epson home  printer wont print on to acetate, so I had to use the negative directly onto the paper
FP4 pinhole from the RSS45z

I was thinking of starting the weekend thread earlier today, but something popped up. Two shots from a walk around Stavanger with a wide lens.

I'm really surprised it can't do it. On my cheap HP, I just tell it that I'm printing on matte photo paper so that it lays the most ink down and just feed it some inkjet transparencies (making sure that it prints on the rough absorbant surface).

Are you printing inkjet on acetate? I had mixed results depending on the brand of inkjet slide. There are some cheaper brands that don"t hold the ink very well and smear or get sticky.

I got a bunch of IBM branded sheets of inkjet compatible acetate at a garage sale.
You have to make sure it says Inkjet on it as they are completely different from those for laser.
They have a rough texture on one side that holds the ink. It takes a while for the ink to dry on those so you have to leave them out in the open for quite some time before using them.

I had a quick look. I got good results with Pictorico inkjet acetate (very expensive) and PPD acetate (much more affordable, but only available up to A4 format). With Label Ocean inkjet acetate had a bad experience. It just doesn't hold enough ink for a decent negative an got all sticky.

It could be that the surface is reacting with the ink. I had something similar happen to me with my old Epson and Polaroid branded paper.
I really have to see if I can't get some for cheaper from Aliexpress...
