It's booked!
-
Good day out last year. Mrs LD and I will also be in attendance though, of course, I won't be buying anything - just a bit of retail therapy ::)
-
For sure! I'l be there... but I won't be buying anything either... nothing at all... absolutely nothing... nothing... no...no...
-
I hope to make it this time too..
-
I missed it last year so plan to be there this year.
Had a bit of an idea...
How about arriving with no gear, zilch, nothing and buying a camera, film and anything else you want and using it on the day to record events. Needn't be anything expensive. Results to be posted hereabouts. Maybe we could see who can spend the least amount.
-
That is one helluva good idea, Peter. I'll even arrive without my wallet.....
Seriously, though, that could be an absolute blast.
A word of warning; take your shin-pads 'cos the Saga Louts were on the rampage last time and a few of us came off second best :o
-
I'm in.
-
Now, I may be able to make this, which would be fab!
-
YAY! I almost started this thread last week but thought it might be a little early. never mind. I will be there, and as its not long after my birthday I should have some cash.. not sure I could face not bringing any cameras with me at all though (its just not in my nature), maybe sneak a Trip in my back pocket :-P then if I do buy something nice then I can use that instead :-)
was an awesome day last year! just need to jog my memory and put real names (rather than forum names) to faces ;-)

Is the bear a Catholic?

;)
No, but the Pope craps in the woods..... :o
-
not sure I can make it this year ... we'll see.
-
on the diary.... maybe
-
I'm making all the efforts to go! Are we meeting up for a coffee or something?
It will be my last for sometime at least ... :( I'm moving back to Brazil this year and don't know when I'll be able to visit the fair again :(
-
In my diary & plan to be there :)
-
Just put it in my diary as my weekends are looking rather busy lately.
-
I'm making all the efforts to go! Are we meeting up for a coffee or something?
The pre-show coffee is always a bit of a problem. I've yet to find somewhere local that does decent coffee and opens on a Sunday. I remember doing a bunch of googling last year with no success - any suggestions?

A flask of coffee and a packet of digestives in the park beforehand?...

In fact... I'd prefer to get to the fair early before anything just to check if there's something unmissable, like the £1.00 Agfa films that Silverprint were selling right at the beginning o the fair... walk around a bit and then stop somewhere for a coffee. It might sounds a bit desperate but I really like hanging around that place!! :P It's a sort of heaven for me ;D
I'll try to find a place as well Nigel...
-
yeah im with you Mauricio, early doors hunting then a break for coffee and maybe early lunch then back in for some last minute scavenging. thats my game plan! Feel I have to somehow beat Miller's mega hall last year. hopefully not buying such a large camera this time so probs be buying mostly film anyway :-)

It looks like a good plan to me ;)
-
Ok I can go with that! :) I'm really looking forward to it!
-
This Photographica thingie is an unknown to me. Can anyone describe what happens there?

It should be right up your street Sandeha!
-
Booo....bad timing...I'll be in sunny (hopefully) Cornwall on that day.
Have fun chaps :)
-
Thanks, Paul. Looks good, but logistically ... I'll have to see.
-
My gosh... I guess I won't be able to take a flight to meet you at the show. Thing is, it's my birthday on the same day, so I'm stuck home with the little family I have!
I hope you're all going to think about me while shopping ;)
-
certainly will francois, perhaps we can club together and get you something ;-) haha now I've put my foot in it.
after doing some research I already have decided on my items to hunt down. some sekor lenses for my mamiya rb. after much deliberation on whether to swap to a more user friendly (i.e. less hefty) system that is 6x6, I have decided to stick with the mamiya as I think it yeilds the best results i'm going to get for the money...
next MF SLR....... Hassy.... one day.

Quick "bump" for this topic.........
20th May will be here in the blink of an eye, so maybe worth firming up diary commitments if interested.
Please note correction to location of venue (same as last year) and revised map.
-
Dropped in my diary sir...
That boozer from last year was good for a catch up also...
Just eye spied with my little eye, your site LD... Some cool stuff...

In my diary too.
The, "aroma" shall we say, may prove too overpowering for me, I can't even spend 5 minutes in a second hand store without retching. Oh but the bargains... oh oh oh.
Saga Louts ;D
-
Trust me, Suzi, these "Saga Louts" take no prisoners. They may look genteel and frail but they are ruthless when it comes to pushing their way to a bargain. I've played I a scrum against more delicate front row forwards than some of these blue-rinsers from hell....!! :o

I can well believe it! Sounds like the best plan is get their early clad in shin and elbow pads to find some bargains and then break for coffee before going back in..
-
Right, so I'm totally up for it again this year and can go along with the 'get there early for a bargain scout, break for coffee/lunch and then head back later for the mop up' approach....it's what I'd do normally anyway.
I'm very, very sorry to hear that Mauricio is leaing this fair Island of Albion (or whatever), so we will have to take an extended session to make his final Photografica a memorable one ;D ;D
I agree 100% with Miller that the pub we went to last time is worth revisiting. If no-one objects to it as a venue I could always see if we can book that big room upstairs. Last year it worked out too perfectly to be true....and I can't see it all falling into place quite as well this year unless we plan it a bit.
Does anyone remember what it's called? And can we agree a time slot for going to the pub? 12.30? 1PM?
Suzi: Don't let this put you off, but I need to have a catch up with you about late 80's early 90's noisy indie music, so let's hope we get to finally meet up on the day.

I'm definitely up for it so count me in for a group hug/elbow the saga louts outta the way FW get together.
Ed, I hope my memory can be jogged about noisy indie music! ;D

Ed - was this the place?
http://www.whitehorseandbower.co.uk/ (http://www.whitehorseandbower.co.uk/)
I've Googled "pubs in SW1P" and this looks like the only likely candidate and it is roughly where I thought the one we visited was (on Horseferry Road).

I think the pub was this one actually?

I remember the walk and that vaguely looks like the front and the description in comments sounds about right
I found this IRL on my table and thought fondly of you all :)

definitely the Jugged Hare. I remember it well.
-
Seeing as I made last years photo I best make and effort this year.
Still haven't processed the rolls of film from the Southwold expedition yet.
As a Filmwaster I currently suck
-
Heather, you absolute angel....!! The Jugged Hare was a great pub and the food was excellent, too.
Ed, a 1pm meet up for refreshments sounds like a great idea. Worth enquiring about reserving the upstairs room for a couple of hours from 1pm?
-

Thanks Ed :) Probably the toughest decision to make after all these years living in London...
It looks like May will be the month to come to London for holidays ::)

Count me in for the Jugged Hare, :) and Photographica of course! I'm working on my shopping list.
-
Righty ho. I'll give the pub a call and try to book us a spot for a couple of hours.
Mauricio: If you come back to the UK once a year then that'll probably keep our average of 1 meeting per year going strong :D
-
I'm gonna try my best to make this one as I have a few quid burning a hole in my pocket. It's a few days after I return from holiday so it may not pan out, but, I will try.
