Weekend 23-25 March 2018
« on: March 23, 2018, 03:49:16 PM »
Since everyone else seems to be slacking pretty hard - it's almost noon on the East Coast of the U.S., people! - it is left to me to start the weekend thread.  :P

Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

It's spring so here are some birds.  Bronica ETRSi using a Zenzanon MC 250mm f/5.6 lens.  The film is Ilford Delta 100 developed in beer.

Out on the street again, this time with my Century Graphic 23 and a 105mm Tominon lens in a soft rain, in Ovar, Portugal.  The first was taken in a park that I think was once the site of a mill.  The building materials have been redistributed and made into various “sculptures” (ruins).  The second is a family, enjoying the park.  The third is a self-portrait.

Very nice start to the weekend, as usual. I hope that this weekend has some good weather and I can go to Philly tomorrow and take some pictures.

In the meantime, here is a couple from last weekend. My first-ever attempt to stand-develop in Rodinal 1:100 for an hour. I was afraid that since I use a single-roll tank (Paterson 4), 3 ml were not going to be enough, but it seems to have worked. At least I got some images. I think I need to work my exposure and adjust it based on exposing for the shadows when stand-developing?

I too keep hearing that Agfa Vista is rebadged Fuji Superia. I've shot a lot of Vista 400, but to me it does not look like Superia or any other Fuji film I've seen.

Vista was made by Fuji, but I never saw anything definitive as to exactly which emulsion. Whatever Vista was, however, it's been discontinued.

The only way to know for sure is to take the barcode on the cassette and send it through https://dexter.pcode.nl/
The code identifies the emulsion and is used by machines to make sure that the emulsion is C-41 and give the machines the correct color calibration information.

Dexter reports Agfa Vista 200 to be Fujicolor C200.

It's been a slow start to 2018 for me - I think this is only the second film I've developed this year:

A couple of color shots to keep company with Becky's drive-in. In retrospect, the dino picture needs less color saturation and more grain, so I may reshoot it at some point if I can decide on a appropriate emulsion to try.

I really like the versatility of this weekend's photos. I really like the birds on stilts, Bryan, your "belly selfie", William, the atmospheric shots that you manage to pull off with the Vivitar, Becky, and Kevin's cow portrait. Great job everyone. :)

I took the following shots with my Olympus 35RC on Fomapan 400, developed in Caffenol-C-H (RS).

I love Kevin Allan's baby yak! Although it's probably a Highland cow or something...

Probably a highland cow like you say.
I've seen some once before and they are some of the sweetest animals you can imagine. It's just that they are a bit too large to keep in the city ;D

Nice weekend everyone! Here is some Agfa Radiographic I got from Bryan. Exposed at iso 20 in the Kodak 35RF (also from Bryan). Dev'd in Parodinal 1:100 stand x 60 min.

It's the Pacific.

First time I have developed a film in beer, based on one of the recipes around the internet - Fomapan 100, Nikon F65, developed for 15 minutes. Probably should have developed longer as the negs came out very thin. Surprisingly the scans came out quite well without any tweaking. Problem though were lots of spots at the edges, likely the ingredients didn't dissolve completely. Also I used a half litre of my home-brewed beer which does have sediment from bottle conditioning. Maybe next time I try some cheap supermarket beer. Didn't attempt clean up with Photoshop.
