UK Filmwasters Meet Up - DUNGENESS Feb 2013 - Pictures Thread
« on: February 10, 2013, 12:57:00 PM »
Wow, what a great day. My legs ache and my cheeks are sunburnt. Great to meet lots of new people, and put pictures to faces. I shot 10 sheets of B+W, and 10 of colour. An exceptionally high amount for me - I truly wasted some film.
Dungeness is a truly stange/special place, and very much out of my comfort zone, not a tree in sight. I did my best to avoid the cliches, but I do appear to have taken some pictures of rotting boats...
These 2 are the first dry enough to scan, and were from the very end of the day, I shot these abstacts as a way of avoiding the bad karma that occurs from shooting only one side of a double dark slide.

Thanks very much to Leon for organising the trip so well. As I said a great day.

Some great stuff from everyone so far, and I go and ruin it with some pics of old sheds!

I took 10 shots, but, for the first time ever, most of mine were ruined by some dead developer (gutted).

Peter, those SFX shots are great! Really like the look, do you need a red filter for that film, I've never used it (it looks pricey).

Leon - did you lose the light house shot? I lost a shot to a leaky film holder (new to me)

Leon - did you lose the light house shot?

Not as such, but it is woefully underdeveloped, and lots of uneven dev in the sky.  Plus, the composition is a bit shit.

Lighthouse Fail: (this shows what scanning can do!  There is no way I'd get anything like this if I tried to print it)

PS - I quite like the bullrushes shot.

Peter - how do you like the SFX?  The IR looks particularly strong on the Nets/shed pic.

I like what I got with it on the day. I have a couple more rolls to play with and will try to find some different subjects.

The IR effect wasn't that great. The nets one probably had the strongest effect but I had to do a bit of creative curve manipulation on all of them. The filter I was using was a 720nm one but was a cheapy filter from China and I don't think they have as steep a cut-off as, say, a Hoya one so the effect isn't as strong. I might invest in a better one now I've seen some results.

Peter, those SFX shots are great! Really like the look, do you need a red filter for that film, I've never used it (it looks pricey).

Yes, you need a filter otherwise it just looks like normal film. See Leon's article for some examples.

Only these are sperical. The reasoning being instead of swiveling the reflector, they would move the microphone instead, much easier. They worked too, but the planes of WW II were too fast and picked up too late for them to be of use. However experience gained from networking several sites at once to quickly attain numbers, range and speed information was transfered to radar operations giving them a head start over the opposition.

And making parabolic shapes is pretty hard to start with. What's easy to put on paper can be a nightmare when you try and make it in the real world!
No wonder they went with circular shapes.

But still, this is incredibly neat stuff.

Good to meet up with you all for the first time many thanks to Paul for the intro and being the driver for the day.

Some lovely images posted making me feel bad that I have not processed them all and posted some. Well I'm sorry I have spent the day in the Chilterns, we still still have lots of snow and it never went above freezing today. Now totally knackered what with all that shingle on Saturday and up to 8" of snow today.

Hopefully I can get some of my T Max developed soon for Dungeness..........don't hold your breath for anything exciting.  :-\

Wonderful company, fish and chips, a pint of decent ale and wasting a load of film. What could produce a more enjoyable day out? Here's a few from Saturday. Hasselblad 500c/m, 50mm and 80mm CF T* lenses and Ilford XP2 Super.
