I use it as a news/ updates/ new work page for my website. I don't manually update it, but have a variety of IFFT operations going to automatically sort things out for me. It is so damn easy!

Tumblr has been my main place on t'Internet for the past many years and I love it....we even have our Filmwasters blog hosted there:

I've visited a few Tumblr sites in the last year or so and, as much as I like what I see, I'm not really sure what benefit they offer compared to the likes of Flickr. I'd be grateful if someone could enlighten me please......

I don;t use tumblr in the same way that I use/d flickr. I use tumblr as a sort of mini site to post test shots and other stuff that interests me - not always my own photos. I like that you can queue posts up in advance and just forget about them and cross post to twitter or wherever. I just find it really handy to use and quite fun.

Not being cynical, but isn't Tumblr just a clever way of adding to the white noise that is the internet? I already have a blog, facebook, website & flickr account that nobody visits - having a Tumblr whatever is just another site for people to ignore.

Maybe I just don't "get it"

Probably. But I like it for some reason, and I deactivated facebook and my old blog and now only really have twitter/website and filmwasters.. I wanted an outlet for bits and bobs but not a proper blog and it kind of fills that space.

I think tumblr fits well for just showing stuff quick and easy. I don't want to put up too many photos on facebook and I keep flickr for the more nerdy stuff. flickr is a community and I like the commenting and threads there. tumblr is mostly one way communication -why I have a guestbook.

sean - that's exactly what I do - I've set up ifft to automatically post to my tumblr whenever I use the tag 'tumblr' on a flickr image. The ifft actions are really easy to set up.

Got the iffft think working in tumbler, and added one for twitter as well so I can skip the button press of flickr. Doesn't have a tie in for Google+, though.

I hope this is kosher, and it's a way to contact and spread news to a few filmwasters who would "Like" my posts on facebook but I've quit facebook... so for those who might have missed my phone pics to fb along with those who haven't noticed, if you tumbl you can get a daily dose of fake Diana toy camera pics taken with my phone. The Vignette app I use might not be valued at $1 billion but it's priceless to me. After a hiatus, I'm back up posting one a day. Hope you enjoy it.

FWIW, I think phone apps that replicate various film looks is good for film as it exposes people to the possibilities and character inherent in using film. Might intrigue them to the point of picking up a film camera...

I was wondering what happened to you on FB. Im considering ditching FB myself and setting my FB fan page to just be my only page. I find that since my son is no longer deployed, I dont visit FB as often and I miss a lot anyway.

Well, I've gone and done it. I've been really impressed with the stuff I've seen on the sites posted in this thread that I can't not have a go myself.

I doubt I'll be able to live up to the standard set but I'll never know if I don't try.
