Kodak Intermediate colour film 2242, EI?
« on: January 07, 2015, 11:42:49 AM »
I found a few rolls in the fridge, gifted to me at some point in time, and long forgotten. But can't find out what sort of EI the film should be rated at. Being an intermediate motion picture film I surmise the process, lighting et al, is completely standardised, and therefore no EI rating need be given as such. Kodak's datasheets say nothing on the matter.  I will be developing in C-41, and not ECN-2. The rolls do have 800 printed on them, but I suspect that the EI is nowhere near that, or am I just being overly suspicious? Anyone know?

Copy films are notoriously insensitive. They don't care how you feel (Hugh? ???)
Joking aside, I would bracket it at low iso... Maybe 25 and under.

Film is the vinyl record of photography.

I was thinking even lower, like the ISO 6 that a lot of that stuff likes being shot at. Ezzie, did you see this?

Thanks. Yes Don, I saw that thread. Not sure what to make of it. Not much facts, and lots of speculation. Anyhow, I will just have to bracket the heck out of it and see what comes out.

Hey Eirik, if you decide you like that film there is almost a mile of it for sale on ebay  ;)

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Kodak-2242-intermediate-film-bulk-2-cans-rolls-2000-feet-ea-/151540885203?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item23488a66d3

Sure its starting bid is over 400 bucks but it works out to just a bit over 10ยข a foot!

Maybe I should get Mike and James to go in on it with me (inside joke on a recent group film purchase).

Time for the image I always want to post in this context...

I need 1300' of iso<25 film like I need a poopie flavored lollipop, but if you get 39 other people to go in on it, count me in. ;D

Brilliant thanks. I have seen Kodak compare 2254 and 2242 in terms of stops (if I have interpreted the datasheet correctly). So this is most helpful.

Cut from 2254 datasheet:

"Improved Exposure Efficiency: The new films offer up to 1 1/2 stops greater exposure sensitivity than KODAK VISION Color Intermediate Film 2242/5242, resulting in improved efficiency in digital postproduction.

Eirik, I have been thinking about this much too much today and it resulted in a really nerdy and questioning post! I decided to start a new thread with my related question as I did not want to take your thread WAY OT  ::) ::)

But, out of curiousity, is this your film?

http://motion.kodak.com/motion/uploadedFiles/kodakVision52427242.pdf

If I am reading the curve correctly (and the bloody post I just wrote was begging for someone to correct me, haha) I think the ISO value for the above film is less than 1.

That thread I started that is quasi related to your question is here.

Applying the correct maths to the 2242 curve results in 0.8/10^0 = 0.8 ISO

Thanks Don

Actually it doesn't... check out the articles section to know why ;)
I've corrected the article and recalculated it. I get a value of 0.9 ISO.... at those values, I think we better just say 1 ISO and prepare for long exposures. ope you have a good tripod ;)

Thanks, I got 0.8 initially - so we are close. I will give it a try, maybe as a one roll, one subject effort. Will post when ready.
