Check out the February Guest Gallery by S. Gayle Stevens.
I reviewed her work at PhotoNola last December and admire her process.
--tintypes with holgas and pinholgas, very cool.

Wha-hey! Another guest gallery. This site is a hive of activity all of a sudden. 2010 shaping up nicely so far.

Thanks to La Blurstine as always for her great contacts and impeccable taste.

Particularly liked the sly self-portrait as encephalopod...and "Solace", with its Van Gogh-like turbulence. Arresting work. Thanks, Susan.

Having gone back and looked at these for a second time I will say that I much prefer the non-self work. Not knowing anything about the photographer other than that which is written in the short bio which accompanies the gallery and therefore unaware of the journey which may (or may not) inform the self-portrait work, I think the 'Army of Darkness' and the the two pier shots stand up better on their own. Would love to have seen more like that...but hey, I think I'll tootle off to Ms Stevens' website and do just that.

wow, thank you for all the wonderful comments.
ed, i've dealing with peoples' perception since i was in grad school.  i am perceived by many, as a happy bubbly person but don't we all have a darkside? so the self portraits are searching my many sides/facets true or perceived. i've also had a few friends pass recently so mortality plays in this too.
does that help?
