Polaroid exhibition - October meet up in London?
« on: September 29, 2009, 12:04:42 PM »
Is it worth trying to co-ordinate the FW gang into a clan gathering and visit these upcoming polaroid exhibitions.

We could then have a polaroid outing day in Londontown.

There would obviously have to be food, coffee, and beer

And we may have to find proxies for all the overseas FW's (our partners come to mind)

cheers (I am serious about this)

Being from Adelaide I know and love Melbourne well.

Last saturday morning the wife and I were riding our motorbikes up north and as we rode past the local pubs there were lots of drunk and tired Aussies falling out of them, obviously full of grand finals fever and cheer

I was actually muttering to Ed et al about another meetup sometime soon because there's a photography exhibit at the British Library that should be really good... but that's on until March (and starts 30 October) so we could possibly organise something in the interim.

Maybe someone else should make the FOOD arrangements since I failed miserably the last time (or rather, failed to check if pub was going to serve food on that specific day. Doh.)

Problem is... one exhibit is very north of the river near Bond Street and the other is in Battersea... Bit of a tour to get them both in but they're both free which is always good.

Hey Heather, sounds like a day trip to London.

For all of you who may be a bit um... er.... ar, you can get a day pass for bus and tube to get around central London for about ?5.80

So we could have a pre arranged meeting time and spot see the first exhibiton

coffee and chat about exhibition

Bus or Tube to the next spot

View exhibition

have lunch discuss exhibition

Then onto the real stuff - shoot some polaroids, we can choose any area we want that's within Zone 1 and 2

Of course for me I will watch on in amazement as the polaroid spectacular unfolds in front of me - read I don't got me no magic film gear

If we have a rough timetable for all this it means people can hook up along the way if they are late or because of location can't make the first port of call, which for my mind should be 10'ish given the amount of sunlight we are starting to not get.

Where are you getting a tube card for 5.80? oh, not all zones offpeak, nevermind. Duh. Mine today was 7.80...

They don't start until after next week anyway so we have enough time to hum and haw.

Hmm... I assume we're doing a Saturday? Neither gallery opens until 11AM then...

Okay, this plan needs some input from other FW's as I still consider myself a Newby and would hate to be seen as giving orders etc.

So I will put forward this:

We meet in town at the  Atlas Gallery, 49 Dorset St London, W1U 7NF at 11.0am, this will give out of towners a easy point to aim for.

We visit this exhibition and then find some refreshments and then we travel by bus, as I know from living at Clapham Junction the bus is easier to get to Battersea park than train. We visit the pump house for that exhibition.

Once done we can find lunch, or eat lunch we have brought with us,a s it is mostly pub meals around there. There is a cafe by the lake in the park which made coffee that didn't kill me - so there's a start.

While there is daylight we can make our way over to the Battersea power station, or remain in the park or wander along the Thames path or whatever, just use the location for shooting some polaroids or film for non polaroid losers like me  :(

Then for the hardy day outers we can find dinner.

I would put forward the 17th October at this point as this is currently the weekend I am free and in London. Maybe the 31st but my lovely wife has to work that day/evening so would be sad not to have met you all.

However this whole event can go on even if the majority want another saturday and I can't be there, I think it more important for the gang to get together and mark this moment in film history.

Maybe we can have our own exhibiton later on  :o

I may be able to come up on thurs 29th/fri 30th/Sat 31st October, but other than that, I'm unlikely to be able to come up to the city until my winter hols - I'm off from 21st Dec to about the 21st Jan.
